A Weekend in Lafayette Land.

On Saturday I was interviewed by a reporter from French Public Radio. Today she visits the Southern Preposterous Lie Center. I asked her to give them a message for me: "Tell them that when it comes to the constitutional militia movement that they don't know merde from breakfast."

Meanwhile, back in the Land of Lafayette:

Baby killed as family jumps from Paris window after 'devil sighting'

Saturday, 23 October 2010

A baby died when a family of 12 leapt from their second floor balcony in Paris claiming they were fleeing the devil.

Eight more were injured, some seriously, in the tragedy when they jumped 20ft into a car park in Paris suburb of La Verriere.

The baffling incident occurred when a wife woke to see her husband moving about naked in the room, police said.

She began screaming 'it's the devil! it's the devil!', and the man ran into the other room where 11 others adults and children were watching television. One woman grabbed a knife and stabbed the man before others pushed him out through the front door.

When the man forced his way back in, they all began screamed in terror and leapt from the balcony screaming 'Jesus! Jesus!'

The naked man also leapt from the balcony, detectives said. (MBV: Emphasis supplied. I wonder who was chasing him?)

A four-month old baby died in his mother's arms, while a two-year-old was critically injured in yesterday’s incident.

Police said they had found no evidence of hallucinogenic drugs or unusual religious rituals.

Versailles assistant prosecutor Odile Faivre added: “A wife in the next room saw her husband moving around naked and began screaming that he was the devil.

“In the confusion following this apparent case of mistaken identity, the naked man's sister-in-law stabbed him in the hand and he was ejected through the front door of the flat.

“When he attempted to get back in, panic erupted and the other occupants of the flat fled by jumping out of the window.

“A number of points surrounding this incident remain to be cleared up,” Mr Faivre said.

No doubt.

I seen the devil, and she had a big gavel in her hand, and she worked for the devil's son, who lived in a big white house. But I didn't jump out no window, I just went and read my Bible.

I'd suspect those folks were immigrants from French Guiana. Lot's of similar practices to those found in Haiti.

The explanation is simple but requires an understanding of French culture. The wife did not recognize her naked husband because she had never seen him without clothes. French men sleep exclusively with their mistresses.

The naked man threw himself overboard because he feared his mistress would think he had made sexual advances to his wife. :^)

all the expected elements are there:

A baby was killed and several more people seriously injured when a family of 11 threw itself from a third-floor flat to flee a man they mistook for the devil, French investigators said.

The bizarre tragedy came to light on Saturday when firefighters were called to the village of La Verriere on the outskirts of Paris following reports that several people had jumped from a balcony in a social housing block.

Among the injured they found an entirely naked man of African origin with a knife wound in his hand and two children, a baby and a two-year-old girl. The baby died later after receiving hospital treatment in Paris.

The assistant prosecutor from Versailles, Odile Faivre, told reporters the incident began in the early hours when a group of 13 people were watching television in an apartment and the naked man heard the baby cry.

"The man got up to prepare a bottle for the baby when his wife, seeing him, screamed 'It's the devil, it's the devil'," she explained.

In the confusion following this apparent case of mistaken identity, the naked man's sister-in-law stabbed him in the hand and he was ejected through the front door of the flat. When he attempted to get back in, panic erupted.

"The other occupants of the flat fled by jumping out of the window," Faivre said. According to police, one man jumped with the two-year-old in his arms and crawled two blocks away to hide in bushes, screaming: "I had to defend myself."

Investigators found no trace of hallucinogenic substances in the apartment and no evidence that any occult ritual had taken place. Seven of those who jumped were taken to hospital, some with multiple injuries.

"A number of points remain to be cleared up," Faivre said.

I read about this Friday in Le Figaro. They're either Guianan or from one of the former French colonies in Africa. The town where this happened, described in this article as "a suburb of Paris", is one of the banlieus though not among the worst. Three are under investigation in connection, the "devil" and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law who've apparently given two different accounts. One is a domestic dispute, the other that the guy's wife thought he was the devil and freaked. Crazy stuff like this happens in the banlieus all the time.

May have happened in France, but these folks ain't ethnically French.
